Anxiety is common and a chronic stress.

Gets worse over a lifetime
Stress of one kind or another – fear of thunderstorms, separation anxiety, stranger fear – can set off a complex chain of events. This also affects about 2 in 3 dogs. Repeated stressful episodes often build and worsen over a lifetime,as anxiety is not something dogs 'grow out of'.

Can shorten your dog's life

Chronic stress is associated with high levels of cortisol. Studies have linked long-term exposure to stress and anxiety to increased risk of heart disease, digestive issues, and weakened immune system in dogs. There are also studies showing a shortened lifespan.

Can lead to aggression

Shadowing you, freaking out at sounds, excessive licking, and making a break while you’re away, are common signs of anxiety. They're at one end of what's called the Stress Escalation Ladder.This shows the signs as dogs' stress elevates - ending with aggression.

Postbiotics
Bacillus coagulans is a lactic acid-producing bacteria that is commonly used as a probiotic supplement. It can withstand extreme environments, such as high levels of acid, in the stomach. It has been shown to improve gut health and strengthen the immune system, which may help reduce anxiety by reducing inflammation in the body and promoting a balanced gut microbiome.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus
has been shown to colonise the gut and produce antimicrobial substances. This antimicrobial activity helps prevent chronic stress and dysbiosis of the digestive system, reducing anxious behaviourin dogs. 

Amino acids

L-Theanine is a type of amino acid that is the main component of green tea leaves. L-theanine can increase dopamine and serotonin levels in the brain. These are important neurotransmitters that play key roles in mood, anxiety, cognitive functions, and behaviours in mammals.

Tryptophan is another essential amino acid for dogs and cats and is a precursor of seratonin and malatonin. Serotonin plays an important role in the inhibition of aggressive behaviour and impulses. Tryptophan is necessary for the synthesis of melatonin, which has sedative qualities, making it effective in calming down and soothing anxious dogs.

B-complex vitamins & antioxidants

B vitamins play important roles in the synthesis and regulation of neurotransmitters, serotonin and dopamine, which are implicated in mood regulation, as well as clinical depression and anxiety. Nutritional yeast is a B-complex powerhouse. It's also a source of the powerful antioxidants, glutathione, and selenomethionine, which can help reduce oxidative stress in the body, protect cells against damage, and reduce inflammation. Inflammation has been shown to increase feelings of anxietyas it affects the anxiety-related regions of the brain. As the level of inflammatory markers increase, so do the feelings of anxiety.

Valerian, hawthorn, pomegranate

Valerian extracts contain considerable amounts of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), a type of neurotransmitter that produces a claming effect in the brain. Hawthorn is packed with antioxidant flavonoids and a variety of bioactive natural compounds; phenolic acid, flavonoids, and proanthocyanins. The antioxidants in hawthorn can help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and inflammation by detoxifying the reactive oxygen species and free radicals that fuel the inflammatory process, disrupting homeostasis. Pomegranate is also rich in polyphenols, especially ellagic acid, responsible for antidepressant and anti-anxiety effects.
