Itchy skin is common
Your pet's skin is a reflection of their
health, yet nearly 25% of all
veterinary visits are the result of
skin conditions. It often presents as relentlessly itching, scratching, rubbing and licking. Almost half of all dogs presenting with skin allergies are eventually diagnosed with atopic dermatitis, a chronic inflammatory skin condition.

Linked to gut imbalance

Many skin diseases are associated
with alterations in the gut
microbiome. Since the gut interacts
directly with the immune system,
imbalances in the gut microbiome
can lead to an inappropriate immune
response. Several studies have
already found skin diseases such as
atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and
dandruff to be linked to alterations in
the gut-skin axis.

Linked to inflammation

Itchy skin in dogs is often a symptom of an underlying inflammatory condition. This causes the immune system to overreact and produce an excessive amount of inflammation in the skin, leading to itching, redness, and other symptoms. In addition, the skin has a delicate balance between antioxidants and oxidants. When this balance is upset, free radicals can damage cells and tissues in the skin and skin problems can occur.

Postbiotics
L. rhamnosus and L. paracasei  are specific probiotic strains that can help regulate the immune system and reduce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which are molecules that contribute to inflammation in the body.

L. rhamnosus and L. paracasei have also been shown to improve gut permeability, which means they help strengthen the barrier between the gut and the rest of the body, preventing harmful substances from leaking out into the bloodstream and contributing to inflammation. This improved gut health can help reduce systemic inflammation and promote overall health and well-being, including the health of the skin.

Algimun algal extracts

Algimun is a blend of biologically active marine algal extracts, rich in polysaccharides, that strengthen innate and adaptive immune responses and enhance the barrier function of the intestinal mucosa.

Algal polysaccharides
reinforce the junction between intestinal cells leading to a less permeable intestinal wall. They can also help increase mucin secretion of the goblet cells leading to a more functional mucus layer. Polysaccharides help limit inflammation and control immune reactions as well as stimulate a compromised immune system.

Traditional Chinese herbs

In Chinese Foxglove, compounds such as catalpol, rhein, and glycyrrhizic acid are believed to have anti-inflammatory effects, which can help to reduce itching and soothe skin irritation.

In White Peony, compounds such as paeoniflorin, paeonol, and albiflorin are believed to have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects, which can help to reduce skin irritation and prevent infections that can cause itching.

In Chinese Liquorice, the primary compound is glycyrrhizin, which has anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, and antimicrobial properties. Additionally, it contains glycyrrhetic acid, which can help to soothe skin irritation and reduce itching.

Olive fruit phenolic acids

Olive fruit contains phenolic acids, phenolic alcohols, flavonoids, secoiridoids, and phenolic compounds that are known to possess multiple biological activities.

In particular, it's rich in hydroxytyrosol, one of the most powerful antioxidants among all phenolic compounds. By reducing oxidative stress, antioxidants may help to reduce inflammation and improve skin health, which in turn may help to relieve itching.

Hydroxytyrosol is also believed to act as a prebiotic by providing fuel for beneficial bacteria in the gut, allowing them to thrive and outcompete harmful bacteria. This may help to improve gut function and support overall health, including skin health.
