Green tea extract

Green tea extract has high amounts of polyphenols, but particularly catechins including EGCG. EGCG is cartilage-preserving and joint-protective. EGCG has been shown to have high antioxidant activity, up to 100 times more than vitamins C and E.

Green Lipped Mussel

Green lipped mussel from NZ contains glycosaminoglycans, glucosamine and chondroitin, as well as zinc, and magnesium, all beneficial for good joint health. They are also a source of omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, Including but not only, DHA and EPA.

DHAGold

Dogs with who receive omega-3 fatty acid supplements show improved weight distribution, ability to rise and walk, and reduced lameness.

We use DHA GOLD algae extract, a whole cell, fermented microalgae that's a sustainable, natural source of nutritional lipid and an alternative to fish oil. It contains almost twice the concentration of DHA found in fish oil.

Algimun

Algimun is a blend of two biologically active marine algal extracts.They're sources of marine sulfatepolysaccharides, which participate in various immune system functions to help limit inflammation and control immune reactions as well as stimulate a compromised immune system.

The red and green algae in Algimun, strengthen innate and adaptive immune responses and enhance the barrier function of the intestinal mucosa. This helps to support the gut-joint link.

Lutein-rich papaya

Joint disorders are often characterised by cartilage loss and imbalance between cartilage formation and degradation. Chondrocytes, the cells that form cartilage matrix, undergo apoptosis (cell death) and calcification contributing to functional loss of cartilage. Studies have shown that lutein, a natural antioxidant found in high concentrations inpapaya, provides significant protection against oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis in chondrocytes.

Gingko

Ginkgo biloba, has been shown to relieve joint pain, inhibit inflammatory factors, and reduce biomarkers of cartilage degradation.

Postbiotics

L.acidophilus treatment hs been shown to relieve joint pain, protect cartilage, and reverse gut microbiota dysbiosis in a mouse osteoarthritis model.

L. paracasei has been shown to significantly reduce arthritis symptoms and joint damage in the rats. L. casei treated rats showed lower arthritis scores, and less inflammation, bone erosion and tissue damage in the joints.

Joint pain is common

While not all joint pain is osteoarthritis, OA is a common degenerative disease that affects the joints, leading to cartilage breakdown, inflammation, pain, and disability.

One study estimated about 45% of all cats and 90% of cats over age 12 are affected by arthritis in some way.

Research suggests that a dysbiotic gut microbiome, characterised by an imbalance in the types and numbers of bacteria, is associated with the development and progression of osteoarthritis.

Metabolite production:The gut microbiota produces various metabolites, such as short-chain fatty acids, which can have both positive and negative effects on joint health. Imbalances in these metabolites may contribute to osteoarthritis.
Gut permeability: Disruption of the gut barrier, also known as gut permeability, can allow harmful substances to enter the bloodstream. This can trigger an immune response and potentially contribute to joint inflammation and damage.
Systemic effects: The gut microbiota can influence systemic processes, including metabolism and immune function. These systemic effects may indirectly impact the development and progression of osteoarthritis.
