Your dog's diet probably lacks these key omega 3 fatty acids.

5 Reasons your dog needs Omegas Thera-Bites

Black and white abstract shape resembling a play button.

#1 Help your dog's general health

Omega 3 fatty acids - and particularly EPA & DHA — can be low in commercial diets but they're really important fatty acids and among the mnost buoavailable. They play a crucial role in managing inflammation in different parts of the body. They are both needed because they work in different ways:

  • EPA: makes a specific type of lipid mediator that regulates inflammatory conditions like osteoa and IBD.

  • DHA: makes a different kind of lipid mediator that helps neuroprotection, neuroplasticity and retinol health. It also has another function in would healing and gut inflammation.

#2 Skin coat and care

Dogs with canine pruritic skin disease, supplemented with DHA, showed significant improvements in skin health and coat character over time. The quality of a dog’s paw pad is also linked to its DHA nutritional status.

#3 Mobility and joint health

EPA particularly, supports a normal inflammatory response amd may help manage cartilage degradation. These fatty acids compete with omega-6 fatty acids which may help balance the production of inflammatory mediators.

#4 Brain/cognitive development

Feeding dams a diet enriched with DHA during gestation and lactation has been associated with improvements in the neurologic development of their puppies.

#5 brain function when ageing

Healthy brains contain about 60% structural fats and 30% DHA in the gray matter. DHA is the most abundant fatty acid in the brain representing about 95% of the total omega-3s.. However, DHA declines as dogs age. DHA helps improve cognitive function in older dogs, shown in tests on visual performance, learning and memory.

3 Key ingredients to top up your dog's Omega 3s

Omegas Thera-Bites have a powerful blend of EPA and DHA fatty acids plus glycosaminoglycans and eicosatetraenoic acid, from green lipped mussel.

They work together to put the breaks on inflammation through different mechanisms, help membrane fluidity so cells talk to each other better, and modulate neurotransmitters like seratonin...the list goes on!

Omega 3s and why kinky is better! With Dr Anna Sutton

Fatty acids aren't all the same.

Omega 6 fatty acids are essential for all stages of life in dogs and cats because they can't be synthesised in the body and their deficiency is associated with well-defined clinical abnormalities or suboptimal physiologic processes.

But most commercial pet foods contain high, and even excessive amounts of omega 6 fatty acids…and not enough omega 3.

Omega 3 fatty acids - and in particular eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) - have a fundamental role in inflammation.

Prostaglandins and leukotrienes derived from omega-6 are proinflammatory, whereas those derived from EPA and DHA (omega-3) result in a reduced inflammatory response with decreased platelet aggregation and immunologic stimulation.

But that's not all. Omega-3s are further classified based on chain length and biological function:

  • Alpha-linolenic acid(ALA; 18:3, n-3) – A short-chain omega-3 found in plant-based sources like flaxseed and chia. It serves as a precursor to EPA and DHA but because it's too short and the wrong structure it has limited conversion efficiency in dogs. It's not kinky enough!

  • Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; 20:5, n-3) – A long-chain omega-3 primarily found in marine sources, involved in inflammatory modulation and immune function.

  • Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 22:6, n-3) – The longest-chain omega-3, crucial for neural function, vision, and cell membrane integrity.

The conclusion? Dogs will benefit from topping up EPA ad EPA, but getting that from plant-based sources won't do the job efectively.

Why this chew is different

Our cold extrusion process helps preserve nutrients, combining powerful actives with natural ingredients, into therapeutic biscuity bites.

Brown, cube-shaped pet food arranged in a cross pattern.

Whole Food Synergy

It’s much easier to make supplements that use synthetics and isolates than it is to use whole foods. But even though it's harder to do, we use whole foods so you don't lose the synergistic effect of allthe phytonutrients.

Research-based & Therapeutic

Our formulations are based on published research papers and we use therapeutic amounts of key actives.

Bestie Thera-Bites are designed to top up the diet for optimal health...maintain in the diet daily for best result.

That depends on the weight of your dog. The feed guide is 1 chew per 10kg of body weight approximately.

So, for a 10kg dog, a pack of 60 chews will last about 2 months.

That's the reason we sell Trial Packs. That's a cost-effective way of finding out if your dog will eat these chews day in, day out, which they'll need to do to be effective.

In addition:

  • We develop formulations that include palatable ingredients and then test widely.
  • We also include a natural vegetarian flavour along with natural hickory smoke, in most products for extra flavour oomph.
