Sustainability right through our supply chain is an ongoing work in progress. One area where we're continuing to improve, is packaging. Here's where we're at.
Stand up pouches
To date, we've used standard stand up pouches for all of our products - from the balancing supplements through to the health boosters. The problem with a standard stand up pouch however is that it's typically a multi-layer OPP/ MPET/ LLDPE bag.
While classified as a soft plastic (and therefore able to be recycled via the Redcycle program), there's some debate as to the ease with which they can be recycled, as the different laters need to be separated. (As we understand it; and it's far from easy to really get the definitive low down let me say!)
That said, we know the industry is definitely moving in the direction of monolayer pouches, that still offer good moisture barrier (for freshness) but are easier to recycle.
We will shortly be introducing 4 – LDPE – Low-density Polyethylenepouches for all our powder supplements. These pouches will be recyclable at Redcycle, and will be marked with the symbol below.
Cylinders
Our new gummy chews will be available in food-grade cylinders. We believe (but are still checking) that the foil lined tubes can be recycled through the normal council collection. We are currently exploring options for bio-liners if needed.
Gummy packs
The gummy chews will come in small compostable packs made in Australia from renewable cellulose fibre, a biodegradable and compostable cellophane film. The material is certified biodegradable by Australian Standards AS 5810, and can be composted at home.
These bags have good moisture barrier for foods, and can store food for up to 18 months under dry conditions without breaking down. Decomposition time approximately 15 weeks once in the elements.
Scoops
We provide a 5g scoop with our balancing supplements. Currently, these are made of polypropylene, and are fully recyclable in normal council recycling.
Mailers
We use 100% biodegradable and compostable satchels.
